MONTHLY SONG SWAP SUNDAY, March 14 5:00 – 9:00 P.M.

You are invited to attend the next Song Swap and Pot Luck dinner at Karen Kerr's house at 6301 SW 57th Dr, South Miami, FL 33143 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14th.

If you need directions, you may call Karen Kerr at (305) 667-8339. For the pot luck dinner, please bring enough for six to eight people; veggies and vegan are always welcome. Come to play, sing, ask for a song, tell a story, recite a poem, dance or just listen; it all works. When it’s your turn, it’s your call.

February's song swap was over the top, thanks to host Holly White and the fabulous collaboration of musicians who attended. We had a really hot Valentine's Day party. Some say it was the best Valentine's Day celebration they ever had. Besides the usual singing, we danced and had a minor conflagration when a gig bag went up in flames! Mark your calendars and hope to see you there! *** Linda Singer

03/14 SUNDAY 8PM SPIDER JOHN KOERNER

SPIDER JOHN KOERNER was born August 31, 1938, in Rochester, N.Y. At the age of 15, he was one of the youngest to ever get a student glider pilot license. He enrolled in 1956 at the University of Minnesota as an engineering student, but in early 1958, he became a student of the burgeoning folk scene. With a borrowed guitar and a Burl Ives song book, he began a journey which helped shape the course of American country blues and folk music.

For 50 years, John Koerner has explored the ranges of traditional American song, as a solo artist and with a variety of partners. All of his 1960’s recordings are reissued on CD: Blues, Rags and Hollers; Lots More Blues Rags and Hollers; and The Return of Koerner, Ray & Glover, (cornerstones of the blues revivalist era, recorded with Dave Ray and Tony Glover), and Running, Jumping, Standing Still, (a blend of jug band, psychedelic R&B and folk-blues, with (Willie Murphy).

Two 1970s albums recorded on Dave Ray's Sweet Jane label, Music Is Just A Bunch Of Notes and Some American Folk Songs Like They Used To are now collector's items. His 1986 recording Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Been and the 1992 raised by humans, both with Boston's "Mr. Bones" John Burrill, and others, reflect Koerner’s deep appreciation of the traditional song.

Luna Star Café is a great cozy venue with fine food, espresso, imported beers, wine, ciders, along with the best in art, poetry, storytelling, folk and traditional music, blues and jazz.
